THE WORLD IS IN LOVE WITH MERMAIDS. I SHARE THAT LOVE TOO! I only live 35 miles away from Disneyland and you know they have the most famous mermaid all.
My mermaid came out on canvas using the paintable papers from Canvas Corp. I love the papers and the feel (sort of a leather feather thing-I know that doesn’t make sense-It feels like my Microfiber couch. Well after applying 3-4 layers of texture paint it came into it’s own feel.
The project started with a black staple back canvas “SURPRISE” bet you didn’t guess that. I had fun with the paint and texture paste and 3-D Gloss Gel from Prima, gel medium from Faber Castell, Mud from Art Anthology and a few palette knives.
Everything, was thrown onto the canvas after looking through drawers, visiting Home Depot and the Dollar Store. I found mini bottles, pearls, sequins, gems, rhinestones and machine shop pieces, Home Depot made my metal mermaid. Found some real net to cut up and fit on to this piece.
I used a piece of the original paper that had a decorated fish placed on it. I cut it out and decided to play “find the fish”-no, it doesn’t have glasses and a red and white striped shirt
There is no pattern in creating a Mixed Media piece, you just feel it and go with it no one is going to tell you it’s wrong. It’s you enjoy what you create and keep creating.
