Brown Bag Lunch Ideas
Are you looking for a healthy inexpensive filling lunch- I’ve discovered the perfect meal and you will love the price.I was walking down the Pasta aisle at my local Walmart Superstore and saw Barilla Mezze Penne with traditional marinara sauce and thought- I love Penne. The price is only $2.00 and there are more than 5 variety (even a wheat grain pasta). The pasta comes uncooked in a oval shaped tray, with a small extension (for placement of thumb and index finger), a plastic film covers the pasta and sauce. Inside with the pasta is a large plastic sauce scoop tray it’s separated from the pasta- I love the packaging- Did I mention there is a sleeve that covers the pasta while it’s on the shelf.
The instructions on the box states you only need to barely pull back the plastic lining and cook for 1 min. The sauce has large chunks of tomatoes; I AM NOT FOND OF LARGE CHUNKS OF TOMATOES, but it’s a individual’s choice. After cooking the pasta a couple of times, I’ve discovered that it is best to tear the plastic lining completely back (don’t detach) just let it fall back over the pasta, I found that cooking the pasta & sauce for 2 1/2 mins that it cooks better, Beware, when taking out of the microwave, the tray holding the pasta will be HOT and the pasta will be clumped together, the plastic sauce scoop will be hot and needs to be removed from the tray so the sauce can be poured into pasta. I found that if you swirl the pasta and sauce around those big chunk of tomatoes will melt into the sauce.
**I do not recommend letting children under the age of 12 handle the tray or pouring the sauce into the tray of pasta
